Your website shouldn't be something you set up once and then leave unchanged. Regularly adding fresh news and updates gives participants a reason to come back, keeps your website current and gives you another way to share important information about your events.
Why Add News Articles?
A regularly updated news section can help you:
Keep participants informed with the latest event news and updates
Build excitement around upcoming events
Share useful content such as training advice, preparation tips and event information
Showcase your community through participant stories, charity partnerships and event highlights
You don't need to publish a new article every week. Focus on creating useful, relevant content that your participants will want to read and share.
ā Before you start: Make sure the News content section is enabled on your website.
For more information, see our guide on adding content to your website.
Adding a News Article
To create a new article, go to:
Content & Layout ā News ā Add News Article
You'll then be able to add the following information:
Title
Add the title of your article.
Try to make it clear and engaging so visitors immediately understand what the article is about.
For example:
ā5 Tips to Prepare for Your First Half Marathonā
rather than:
āTraining Informationā
Excerpt
The excerpt is a short introduction to your article that can be used when the article is displayed in your news listing.
If you're unsure what to add, you can simply copy the title.
Created By
Enter the name of the person or organisation responsible for the article.
Text Body
This is where you add the main content of your article.
The text editor is intentionally simple, so we recommend writing your article in another application first and then copying and pasting the finished content into the editor.
This can make it easier to proofread and format your article before publishing.
Submit
Once you're happy with your article, click Submit to publish it.
Where Will My Article Appear?
If you already have a News Index Page enabled on your website, your new article will automatically appear there once submitted.
This means you don't need to manually add each new article to your website navigation.
Creating a News Index Page
If you don't already have a News Index Page, you'll need to create one so visitors can view all of your published articles in one place.
To do this, add a Custom Link to your website.
Use:
URL:
https://www.[yourcompanydomain]/content/news
Link name:
News
For example, if your website is trailblazingevents.co.uk, you would use:
https://www.trailblazingevents.co.uk/content/news
Once added, visitors can select News from your website navigation to see your published articles.
š” Top Tip: Once your News page is set up, keep it fresh by adding articles throughout the yearānot just in the run-up to your events. Training advice, participant stories, charity updates, event announcements and post-event highlights are all great opportunities to keep your audience engaged.
