What This Guide Covers

To track bookings made on your Eventrac landing pages in your own Google Analytics account, you need to add your Google Tag Manager (GTM) container to Eventrac. This is a quick one-time setup.

Time to complete: 2-5 minutes

You'll need:

  • A Google Tag Manager account and Container ID

  • Access to the Website Builder inyour Eventrac account settings

Step 1: Get Your GTM Container ID

If you already have a GTM Container ID, skip to Step 2.

Create a GTM Account:

  1. Click "Create Account"

  2. Account Setup:

    • Account Name: Your company name (e.g., "Acme Events Ltd")

    • Country: Select your country

    • Check the boxes to agree to terms

    • Click "Continue"

  3. Container Setup:

    • Container Name: Your Eventrac subdomain (e.g., "the-big-events-company.eventrac.co.uk")

    • Target Platform: Select "Web"

    • Click "Create"

  4. Accept the Terms of Service

Find Your Container ID:

Your GTM Container ID will be displayed at the top of the screen and looks like:

GTM-XXXXXX

Example: GTM-ABC1234

You can also find it anytime by:

  1. Looking in the top bar - your Container ID is next to your container name

Copy this Container ID - you'll need it in the next step.

Step 2: Add GTM to Eventrac

Log into your Eventrac account and switch to "Website Builder"

  1. Go to Meta Tags & Tracking

  2. Find the Google Tag Manager section

  3. Paste your GTM Container ID (e.g., GTM-ABC1234)

  4. Click Save

That's it! Your GTM container is now active on all your Eventrac landing pages.

Step 3: Verify GTM is Working

Quick Test:

  1. Open one of your Eventrac landing pages

    • Example: https://my-organisation.eventrac.co.uk

  2. Open your browser's developer tools

    • Right-click anywhere → Inspect

    • Go to the Console tab

  3. Check for GTM

    • Type: google_tag_manager

    • Press Enter

    • You should see an object (not "undefined")

If you see the object, GTM is installed correctly!

Advanced Verification (Optional):

Using Tag Assistant:

  1. Install the "Tag Assistant Legacy" Chrome extension

  2. Visit your Eventrac landing page

  3. Click the extension icon

  4. You should see your GTM container (e.g., "GTM-ABC1234")

  5. Status should show "Working" with a green checkmark ✅

Using GTM Preview Mode:

  1. In Google Tag Manager, click Preview (top right)

  2. Enter your Eventrac landing page URL

  3. Click Connect

  4. Your landing page should open with a GTM debug panel at the bottom

Troubleshooting

I don't see GTM in the Eventrac settings

Possible solutions:

  1. Check you're in the right section

    • Try: Settings → Integrations

    • Or: Settings → Tracking

    • Or: Settings → Analytics

  2. Update to latest version

    • EventTrac may have moved this setting

    • Contact support for the current location

  3. Contact EventTrac support

    • We'll help you find the right setting or add it manually

I added my Container ID but GTM isn't working

Check these:

  1. Is the Container ID correct?

    • Format should be: GTM-XXXXXX (capital letters, no spaces)

    • Example: GTM-ABC1234

    • Not your GA4 Measurement ID (that starts with G-)

  2. Did you click Save?

    • Make sure you saved the settings after pasting the ID

  3. Clear your browser cache

    • Or test in an Incognito/Private window

  4. Wait a few minutes

    • Changes may take 2-5 minutes to propagate

  5. Check the landing page is published

    • GTM only works on live, published pages

I have GTM on my main website - can I use the same container?

Yes, you can!

You can use the same GTM Container ID for both your main website and your EventTrac landing pages. This makes management easier since all your tags are in one place.

Or you can create a separate container if you want to keep landing page tracking isolated from your main website tracking. Either approach works fine.

What Happens Behind the Scenes

When you add your GTM Container ID to Eventrac:

  1. Eventrac automatically adds the GTM code snippets to all your landing pages

  2. Your GTM container loads on every landing page view

  3. Any tags you configure in GTM will fire on your landing pages

  4. You don't need to manually edit any code - it's all handled automatically

Next Steps

Common Questions

"Will this affect my existing landing pages?"

No, adding GTM is completely safe and won't change how your landing pages look or function. It only adds tracking capability.

"Can I remove GTM later if I want?"

Yes, simply delete your Container ID from the Eventrac settings and click Save. GTM will be removed from all landing pages.

"Do I need to do this for each landing page separately?"

No! Once you add your GTM Container ID to Eventrac, it automatically applies to all your current and future landing pages. One setup covers everything.

"Can I use Google Analytics directly instead of GTM?"

GTM is recommended because:

  • ✅ Easier to manage multiple tracking codes

  • ✅ No code editing required for changes

  • ✅ Better control over when tags fire

  • ✅ Works with Google Ads, Meta Pixel, and other tools

However, if you only need basic GA4 tracking, you can add your GA4 Measurement ID directly
